Getting Started

How much storage space is available for each account?

We include 2Gb standard for each account.

If you are a heavy user, and need extra space, we charge $2.50 per Gb for extra account storage space.

Is storage space "pooled"?

Yes! We allow for "pooling", so if one of your accounts exceeds our 2Gb limit, you can pool the extra space from another account without extra charges.

What is the maximum email attachment size?

We support attachments up to 20Mb. Attachments larger than that size generally have trouble traveling through email systems.

Can I manage my own account?

Yes! Optionally, we can give your administrator access to add and remove email accounts, forwards, and change passwords. We put the control back into your hands. This will give you access to reporting on number of users, size, and a variety of other metrics.

Can you help us migrate from our current email/Exchange solution to Zimbra?

Yes! We give you the tools to migrate your own system, or we can do it for you. DataSync offers full migration services to get your email, calendar, and contacts onto our system seamlessly. We can migrate from standard POP/IMAP, Exchange, another Zimbra hosting provider, or other configurations.

Software & Device Compatibility

Do you support mobile devices? Do you charge extra?

We support all major mobile solutions:

  • Windows Mobile (Treo, Samsung, Moto Q etc.)
  • Blackberry (full syncing via BES server)
  • iPhone (full syncing via Exchange conduit)
  • Palm (not recommended, but it works with Zimbra)

Mobile support is included in all standard account pricing.

What desktop email/collaboration clients do you support?

DataSync supports all major client-side applications:

  • Microsoft Outlook 2003/2007
  • Entourage for Mac
  • Mac Mail/iCal/Address Book
  • Thunderbird
  • Evolution for Linux

What type of offline syncronization do you support?

Using any desktop or mobile client, you can access your Zimbra information offline. When your devices goes online, Zimbra will syncronize the changes.

 


Zimbra Spam/Virus Filtering

What spam filtering technology do you have in place?

DataSync utilizes the DSPAM intelligent filtering technology. We have some of the highest rates of spam detection in the business.

Do end users have access to their spam accounts?

Yes! We place all spam messages in a "junk" folder for later review. We also allow you to "train" your spam filtering by simply dragging your message to a "Train as Spam" folder.

What type of virus scanning technology does Zimbra employ?

Zimbra uses ClamAV spam filtering technology to guard your computer against email-borne viruses.

 


Backup, Security & Data Center

What type of data center are you in?

DataSync hosts our servers in a security-minded data center located in Sioux Falls, SD. We have dedicated bandwidth and server racks. We have 24/7 access to our equipment, so if an issue is found, we're the first to know and respond.

What is your uptime?

DataSync strives to create the most reliable systems available today. Unlike some companies, we don't make false claims on uptime. We have achieved near continuous uptime, and anticipate continuing this level of uptime in the future. Our only downtime in the past has been scheduled maintenance and service restarting.

How do you monitor your services?

We use multiple methods to monitor our hosted environment:

  • Astaro Threat Management Monitoring - This tool gives us access to every bit of information that travels through our infrastructure. It allows us to monitor closely bandwidth, server activity, any unusual activity, and most of all, the security of your information.
  • Hyperic - This tool allows us to see the health of each server on our infrastructure, and alerts of us if there is any issue brewing - before it causes a service inturruption

What security devices do you use to protect my information?

DataSync utilizes Astaro Unified Threat Management devices to protect our hosted environment. This robust security appliance has best-of-breed IDS (Intrusion Detection System), IPS (Intrusion Protection System), content monitoring, bandwidth monitoring, and a host of other security services. We are confident that your data will stay safe with Astaro-based security.

How long do you keep backups of my information?

DataSync stores all backups for 30 days in 2 geographically dispersed locations. We also offer Zimbra Archival and Discover Services for extended information storage and backup.

  • Individual mailbox backups
  • Overall system replication
  • On-demand backup recovery

How quickly can you recover my information?

This depends on the size of the recovery effort. We have a standard response time of about 15 minutes, and from that time on we'll be working as quickly as possible to get your information back. A typical recovery will take less than 30 minutes.

Do you require secure access?

Yes, we turn off everything that doesn't meet our security standards. We have turned off POP and standard IMAP services for security purposes. We pride ourselves in building hardened solutions.

What encryption does your system employ?

We force 128 bit SSL encryptions on all web connections. IMAP/SMTP connections are TLS forced.
